I Am the Flag of the

Of America

I am the flag of the United States of America.
My name is Old Glory.
I fly atop the world's tallest buildings.
I stand watch in America's halls of justice.
I fly majestically over institutions of learning.
I stand guard with power in the world.
Look up and see me.

I stand for peace, honor, truth and justice.
I stand for freedom.
I am confident.
I am arrogant.
I am proud.

When I am flown with my fellow banners,
My head is a little higher,
My colors a little truer.

I bow to no one!
I am recognized all over the world.
I am worshipped - I am saluted.
I am loved - I am revered.
I am respected - and I am feared.

I have fought in every battle
of every war
for more then 200 years.

I was flown at Valley Forge,
Gettysburg, Shiloh and Appamatox.
I was there at San Juan Hill,
the trenches of France,
in the Argonne Forest,
Anzio, Rome and the beaches of Normandy.

Guam, Okinawa, Korea and
KheSan, Saigon, Vietnam know me.
I was there.
I led my troops, I was dirty, battleworn and tired,
But my soldiers cheered me and I was proud.

I have been burned, torn and trampled on the
streets of countries I have helped set free.
It does not hurt for I am invincible.
I have been soiled upon, burned, torn and
trampled in the streets of my country.
And when it's done by those
Whom I've served in battle - it hurts.
But I shall overcome - for I am strong.

I have slipped the bonds of Earth
and stood watch over the uncharted
frontiers of space from my vantage point on the moon.
I have borne silent witness to all of Americas finest hours.

But my finest hours are yet to come.

When I am torn into strips and used as bandages
for my wounded comrades on the battlefield,
When I am flown at half-mast to honor my soldier,
Or when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving parent
at the grave of their fallen son or daughter,

I am proud.

Two Thousand One, Nine Eleven

Two thousand one, nine eleven
Five thousand plus arrive in heaven
As they pass through the gate,
Thousands more appear in wait

A bearded man with stovepipe hat
Steps forward saying,
"Lets sit, lets chat"

They settle down in seats of clouds
A man named Martin shouts out proud
"I have a dream!" and once he did
The Newcomer said, "Your dream still lives."

Groups of soldiers in blue and gray
Others in khaki, and green then say
"We're from Bull Run, Yorktown, then Maine"
The Newcomer said, "You died not in vain."

From a man on sticks one could hear
"The only thing we have to fear."
The Newcomer said, "We know the rest,
trust us sir, we've passed that test."

"Courage doesnt hide in caves
You can't bury freedom, in a grave,"
The Newcomers had heard this voice before
A distinct Yankees twang from Hyannisport shores

A silence fell within the mist
Somehow the Newcomer knew that this
Meant time had come for her to say
What was in the hearts of the five thousand plus
that day
"Back on Earth, we wrote reports,
Watched our children play in sports
Worked our gardens, sang our songs
Went to church and clipped coupons

We smiled, we laughed, we cried, we fought
Unlike you, great we're not"

The tall man in the stovepipe hat
Stood and said, "dont talk like that!"
Look at your country, look and see
You died for freedom, just like me"

Then, before them all appeared a scene
Of rubbled streets and twisted beams
Death, destruction, smoke and dust
And people working just 'cause they must

Hauling ash, lifting stones,
Knee deep in hell
But not alone

"Look! Blackman, Whiteman, Brownman, Yellowman
Side by side helping their fellow man!"
So said Martin, as he watched the scene
"Even from nightmares, can be born a dream."

Down below three firemen raised
The colors high into ashen haze
The soldiers above had seen it before
On Iwo Jima back in '44

The man on sticks studied everything closely
Then shared his perceptions on what he saw mostly
"I see pain, I see tears,
I see sorrow - but I dont see fear."

"You left behind husbands and wives
Daughters and sons and so many lives
are suffering now because of this wrong
But look very closely. Youre not really gone.

All of those people, even those whove never met you
All of their lives, theyll never forget you
Dont you see what has happened?
Dont you see what youve done?
You've brought them together, together as one.

With that the man in the stovepipe hat said
"Take my hand," and from there he led
five thousand plus heroes, Newcomers to heaven
On this day, two thousand one, nine eleven

Where was God

Dear Family and Friends,

I had a very dear friend question my faith in God
right after the terrorist attack on America. Her
question was simply put, "Where is your God today?"
She was very hurt, as all Americans were, so I tried
not to react defensively. Since that moment I have
prayed and grieved over the disastrous events.
However, I believe I have the answer. I know where my
God was the morning of September Eleventh two thousand one! He was
very busy.

First of all, he was trying to discourage anyone from
taking this flight. Those four flights together held
over one thousand passengers and there was only two hundred sixty six aboard.

He was on 4 commercial flights giving terrified
passengers the ability to stay calm. Not one of the
family members who was called by a loved one on one of
the high-jacked planes said that passengers were
screaming in the background. On one of the flights he
was giving strength to passengers to try to overtake
the high-jackers.

He was busy trying to create obstacles for employees
at the World Trade Center. After all only around
twenty thousand were at the towers when the first jet hit.
Since the buildings hold over fifty thousand workers, this was
a miracle in itself. How many of the people who were
employed at the WTC told the media that they were late
for work or they had traffic delays.

He was holding up two one hundred ten story buildings so that two thirds of
the workers could get out. I was so amazed that the
top of the towers didn't topple when the jets
impacted.

Although this is without a doubt the worst thing I
have seen in my life, I can see Gods miracles in
every bit of it. I keep thinking about my friend and
praying for her every chance I have. I cant imagine
going through such a difficult time and not believing
in God. Life would be hopeless.
